The Historic Attendance of the Republic of India on Merchant Navy Veterans Day — located at the National War Memorial — Ottawa, ON, Canada
September 2, 2005

On Friday, September 2, 2005, Her Excellency Shyamala Cowsik, along with other world representatives attended the Merchant Navy Veterans Day event, for the first time in the history of Canada, and participated in our sacred wreath laying ceremony at the National War Memorial in Ottawa, on behalf of the people of the Republic of India.

Since that time, we have been honoured to have members of the Republic of India diplomatic corps attend the Ottawa Merchant Navy Veterans Remembrance Day event, in recognition of the sacrifices and contributions of our Canadian and Allied Merchant Navy Veterans, for our freedoms and systems of democracy.
